Can you believe I have only made one apple crisp in my life?! I recently went apple picking and to my dismay they didn't have my favorite apple: Courtlands. I came home with a bushel of Red Delicious instead (and other varieties that I honestly don't remember). I immediately went hunting for a recipe that called for these apples, and that's where I landed on this apple crips.
I had to sift through many recipes until I landed on this one. I was in a bit of a time crunch and didn't want to go out to get ingredients, but finally I stumbled on one that did not require some sort of oats (which i did not have). What also drew me to this recipe is that it called for ground cloves, which I LOVE.
I have to be honest... I didn't try the apple crisp after it was baked, but I was told from the people that had some that it was quite good, good enough that I am posting the recipe here.
Ingredients:
6 large apples (combo Macs and Red Delicious), peeled, cored and chopped
3 tbs brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Place your peeled, cored and chopped apples into a 9" square baking dish. Sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla over apples, tossing to coat the apples. In a small bowl, cream together butter and sugar, then blend in the flour with your hands. Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden.
